Moving with Children

Friday, July 14th, 2006

Moving is known to be a very stressful experience, when children are involved it could be even more stressful. As much as changing homes can confuse you its usually more confusing to your children. When they have to find new friends, move to a new school and get to know a new neighborhood.

Most people think that the shorter notice they’ll give to their children the less stressful it would be for them. However recent studies have shown that the sooner you’ll tell your children about the upcoming move the more time they’ll have to get used to idea. When you decide to move sit down and explain to your children about the moving and see how the react to the idea.

Let your children take an active roll in the move, explain about the new area you are moving to an encourage them to research on line about the area, show them pictures, famous landmarks and so on.

Your children are influenced by your attitude towards the move, if you are stressed they’ll be stress as well, if you’re excited and positive most likely they’ll be too.

Love Thy Mover

Monday, July 10th, 2006

To make your moving experience as pleasant as possible you need to remember you are dealing with people. The more those people like you the more they’ll care about your goods. They’ll probably be working for you for a few hours if not days. Learn to know them by their names, this will help to communicate better. Order lunch for them, it will be greatly appreciated and the price of the food will usually be equal to the price you pay for them driving to a food store or restaurant and back. Ask if they want energy drinks, again the price of those drinks will probably be equal to the time saved by having more energy.

Remember the happier mover is the happier you’d be.

Research Before You Decide On A Mover!

Sunday, July 9th, 2006

Since the moving process involves great sums of money and puts some or all of your possessions under someone else responsibility doing a little bit of research before you choose your moving company is advised. There are several ways of checking a moving company’s credibility:

1. The BBB (Better Business Bureau) - Helps you check the customer complaints history for a specific company.
2. The FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) - Check traffic offenses, truck conditions, drivers history and more.
3. The MovingScam - A website devoted to help people avoid problematic movers full of useful information and a blacklist of movers.

Here at FroggyMoving.com we designed special moving calculators to help you get ready for an upcoming move by calculating your estimated volume or weight of shipment. Once you know your shipments weight or volume you can automatically calculate the needed storage space in case your planning on storing your goods for a while or get an estimate of packing materials you’ll need for that move. Calculating those factors in advanced will help you make it a smooth move with less unwanted surprises.

To pack or not to pack? That is the question

Friday, July 7th, 2006

Packing household goods require an array of packing supplies. Boxes, tape, shrink wrap, mattress covers, white paper, bubble wrap and durable blankets are commonly used for packing your goods. Buying these products at the store might cost tens or even hundreds of dollars, while buying the same products from your mover on the moving day might even cost you thousands of dollars.

Here is a common scenario:
When a mover gives you a price quote he will often ask if you plan to do all the packing yourself. Most people will answer ‘Yes’ as an instinct, imagining only their cloths, dishes and food. Thinking that you really intend on packing everything the mover will leave the price of packing materials out of the price quote. When moving day finally comes and the movers start working, you realize that you have more things than you imagined and that you did not pack nearly half of your household goods. The big screen TV, that mirror on the dresser, the glass shelves, doors and tabletop, that vase, the pictures on the walls, the toys, knickknacks and much more…

There are 2 solutions to this problem:

1. Ask your mover to include packing prices for those items you do not plan on packing. This way you’ll have a better starting point when deciding whats worth packing yourself and what not and you’ll also be more prepared for the final bill.

2. Packing everything yourself, by doing that you’ll shorten the time of the move by almost half and the price by even more.

In some cases the price of packing a specific item might cost more then buying a new one. Donate, throw away or give to friends items that are not worth packing/shipping.

Summer Moves

Thursday, July 6th, 2006

Now that summer is here finding the right moving company is harder than ever.

All moving companies are fully booked and sometimes even when you think you got your moving date booked and ready, on the moving day the moving company just wont show up.

If you plan on moving this summer — don’t wait! Book a date now, ask for a written promise, pay the deposit and call everyday to confirm on the last 3 days before your official move date. Getting stuck without a mover on your final moving date is no laughing matter and its an experience that is known to cause hysteria even in the most indifferent individuals.

Be prepared for the summer move!
